What information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with DrinkSight.

If you join the DrinkSight panel, participate in a survey, interview or other research project, we may collect information including:

  • your name and contact details;
  • your country, city or region;
  • your job title and level of seniority;
  • the venue, company or organisation you work for;
  • your experience within the drinks and hospitality industry;
  • your opinions, experiences and responses to research questions;
  • information about your venue or workplace where relevant to the research;
  • your participation in previous DrinkSight research; and
  • information required to provide payments, vouchers, products or other research incentives.

We may also collect information you provide when contacting us through the website, joining our panel, downloading content or making an enquiry.

When you use our website, we may collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device information and information about how you use the website.

How we use your information

We use information collected through DrinkSight to:

  • operate and manage the DrinkSight research panel;
  • identify and invite suitable people to participate in research;
  • conduct surveys, interviews and other research;
  • understand trends, attitudes and behaviours within the drinks and hospitality industries;
  • analyse research responses;
  • produce reports, presentations and other insight products;
  • provide research and insights to our clients;
  • contact panel members about relevant future research opportunities;
  • administer research incentives and rewards;
  • communicate with clients and prospective clients;
  • improve DrinkSight and our research services; and
  • meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

How we use your research responses

DrinkSight exists to help drinks businesses better understand what is happening within the on-trade by listening directly to the people working within it.

If you participate in our research, your responses will normally be analysed alongside those of other participants.

We may use responses to identify trends, themes and changes within the industry and to produce research reports, presentations, dashboards, articles and other insight products.

Where appropriate, information provided to our clients will be aggregated or anonymised so that individual participants cannot reasonably be identified.

We may also use anonymised quotes or comments from research participants in reports and other research outputs.

We will not attribute a response or quote to you personally without making this clear to you as part of the research and obtaining any permission required.

Once information has been genuinely anonymised so that you can no longer be identified, it is no longer considered personal data and may be retained and used for ongoing research and analysis.

Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful basis for processing personal information.

Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:

  • Consent – where you have given us permission to use your information for a particular purpose.
  • Legitimate interests – where processing is reasonably necessary for us to conduct market research, operate DrinkSight, understand the drinks and hospitality industries and manage our professional relationships, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Contract – where processing is necessary to fulfil an agreement or arrangement with you.
  • Legal obligation – where we need to retain or process information to comply with the law.

Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time.

Research incentives

We may offer payments, vouchers, products or other rewards for participating in DrinkSight research.

Where necessary, we may collect information required to arrange or verify your reward.

We may use third-party providers to issue incentives. Where we do this, we will only provide the information reasonably necessary to deliver your reward.

Who we share your information with

We may share personal information with trusted suppliers that help us operate DrinkSight and conduct our research.

These may include:

  • survey and research platforms;
  • website and hosting providers;
  • CRM and database providers;
  • email and communications platforms;
  • data analysis and reporting providers;
  • payment and incentive providers; and
  • professional advisers and research partners.

Where appropriate, these organisations are required to handle personal information securely and only use it for the purposes for which it has been provided.

We also provide research and insights to DrinkSight clients. Research findings provided to clients will generally be aggregated or anonymised where appropriate.

We do not sell individual panel members’ personal information to third parties.

We may disclose information where required by law or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

How we use AI tools

We use AI tools from trusted third-party providers to help our team draft, analyse and check information. These providers process data on our behalf under data processing agreements and are not allowed to use it to train their models. Some of them may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place.

A person on our team reviews anything these tools produce before we act on it. We do not use AI to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects without human involvement.

International research

DrinkSight conducts research internationally and may work with participants, clients, research partners and technology providers in different countries.

This means personal information may sometimes be processed or accessed outside the United Kingdom.

Where required, we will use appropriate safeguards to protect personal information when it is transferred internationally.

How long we retain your information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

If you join the DrinkSight panel, we may retain your information while you remain a panel member so that we can contact you about appropriate research opportunities and understand your research history.

Research project information may be retained after a project has finished where necessary to validate findings, answer questions about the research or maintain appropriate research records.

Where possible, research information may subsequently be anonymised and retained for longer-term analysis.

You can ask to leave the DrinkSight panel at any time.

Cookies

DrinkSight may use cookies and similar technologies to operate our website, understand how it is being used and improve the experience for visitors.

Some cookies are necessary for the website to function.

Where required, we will ask for your permission before using non-essential cookies such as analytics or advertising cookies.

You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where available, through the cookie settings on our website.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on DrinkSight may include embedded content such as videos, images, forms or other content provided by third parties.

Embedded content from other websites may behave in the same way as if you visited that website directly.

Those websites may collect information about you, use cookies and monitor your interaction with their content in accordance with their own privacy policies.

Marketing and research invitations

If you join the DrinkSight panel, we may contact you about opportunities to participate in future research.

You can ask us to stop sending research invitations at any time.

Where we send marketing communications, you can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe option within the communication or by contacting us.

Keeping your information secure

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.

Access to personal information is restricted to people and suppliers who reasonably require it to operate DrinkSight or conduct our research.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have rights over the personal information we hold about you.

Depending on the circumstances, these may include the right to:

  • request a copy of your personal information;
  • ask us to correct inaccurate information;
  • ask us to delete your personal information;
  • ask us to restrict how your information is used;
  • object to certain uses of your information;
  • withdraw consent where we rely on consent; and
  • request that certain information is transferred to you or another organisation.

These rights do not apply in every circumstance and there may be situations where we are legally permitted to retain information.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@wildetoast.co.uk

Leaving the DrinkSight panel

You can leave the DrinkSight panel at any time.

If you ask to leave, we will stop contacting you about future research and will remove or restrict your panel information where appropriate.

Research responses that have already been anonymised or incorporated into aggregated research may continue to be used because they can no longer reasonably be linked to you.

Children

DrinkSight is designed for professionals working within the drinks, hospitality and related industries.

We do not knowingly recruit children to the DrinkSight research panel.

Complaints

If you have concerns about how we use your personal information, please contact us so that we can investigate.

You also have the right to raise a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as DrinkSight, our research activities or the services we use develop.

The latest version will be published on this page with the date it was last updated.
